Copyediting
Copyediting focuses on clarity, consistency, and correctness. This service addresses grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and usage, as well as consistency in style and factual details. Copyediting ensures your manuscript is grammatically correct while preserving your voice.
Line Editing
Line editing is a more in-depth, stylistic edit that focuses on how language works at the sentence and paragraph level. This service strengthens voice, improves flow, sharpens word choice, and enhances narrative momentum—all without rewriting your work or stripping away your style.
Proofreading
Proofreading is the final polish before publication. It catches lingering typos, formatting errors, and minor inconsistencies after a manuscript has already been edited. Proofreading is the last step before publication and is best performed by an editor who has not previously worked on the manuscript. For that reason, I do not offer proofreading for projects I have already copyedited or line edited.
What types of projects do you work on?
I primarily work with adult fantasy and adventure fiction, including novels, novellas, and short stories. I also accept select legal and academic projects. If you’re unsure whether your project is a good fit, feel free to reach out.
What is the difference between copyediting and line editing?
Copyediting focuses on correctness and consistency—grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax, and style. Line editing is more stylistic and focuses on voice, flow, and clarity at the sentence and paragraph level. If you’re unsure which service you need, I’m happy to help you decide.
Do you offer developmental editing?
At this time, I do not offer developmental editing services. However, I’m happy to discuss your project and recommend next steps if your manuscript would benefit from a higher-level edit before copyediting or line editing.
How much do your services cost?
I provide per-project quotes based on manuscript length, level of editing required, and timeline. Most novel-length projects fall within the ranges below:
Copyediting: typically $2,000–$3,000
Line Editing: typically $3,000–$4,500
Proofreading: typically $1,000–$1,500
These numbers are estimates based on industry-standard rates. Prices will be adjusted to reflect individual projects. Please contact me for a personalized quote.
Do you offer sample edits?
Yes. I offer paid sample edits of up to 1,000 words for a flat fee of $75. Sample edits allow us both to assess fit and scope before committing to a full project. If we book a full editing project within 30 days, the cost of the sample edit is credited toward the total project price.
How long does editing take?
Turnaround time varies based on project length, level of editing, and my current schedule. I’ll provide an estimated timeline with your quote and communicate clearly if timelines need to shift.
Do you accept rush projects?
Rush availability depends on my schedule and will affect pricing. If you have a tight deadline, please mention it when you reach out.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes. I require a 40–50% deposit to reserve a place on my schedule. The remaining balance is due upon delivery of final edits.
Sample edits are billed separately. If the client proceeds with a full editing project within 30 days, the sample edit fee will be applied as a credit toward the total project cost. The 40–50% deposit is calculated on the remaining balance after this credit is applied.
